Fallout 76 returns Pets to the PTS with four companion types

Fallout 76's Pets system is back on the public test server with four companion types, a long progression track and clearly dated passive milestones.

What happened

Bethesda reopened Pets testing on Steam on September 3.

The studio also said console PTS access is planned in the following weeks and tied native current-generation builds to the September 15 Slasher update.

The practical change: Use the Steam PTS for feedback, keep notes by pet level and passive milestone, and do not treat test values as guaranteed live-release values.

What is confirmed

  • The current test includes Dog, Cat, Radhog and Deathclaw pets.
  • Pets can progress to level 200.
  • Passives unlock at levels 5 and 20 and improve at levels 40, 60, 85 and 120.
  • Bethesda labels several known issues and says PTS content is not guaranteed to ship unchanged.

What this means for players

The milestone list gives testers precise checkpoints for comparing companion behavior.

Because this is test content, live guides should not freeze current damage or passive values as permanent.

What is still unconfirmed

Bethesda has not guaranteed that every pet, milestone value or console test date will reach the live service unchanged.

What to do next

  1. 01
Join through the Steam PTS if eligible.
  2. 02
Record the exact pet level and passive when reporting bugs.
  3. 03
Recheck the live patch notes before building a permanent companion guide.
