Do this first
- 01Choose the Arisen vocation by the actions you want to perform yourself.
- 02Give the main Pawn one clear complementary job.
- 03Hire two Pawns that fill remaining range, recovery or defense gaps.
- 04Listen to Pawn observations and read the terrain before engaging.
- 05Leave or reroute when the party cannot answer the current threat.
Control the role you want to learn
Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a single-player action RPG in which the player directly controls the Arisen while Pawns support through their AI roles. Start with the vocation whose spacing and inputs you want to own.
A Fighter protects at close range, an Archer works from distance, a Thief relies on mobility and rapid strikes, and a Mage can attack, enchant and heal. That official role split is a better opening choice than a universal tier list.
Cover the missing jobs
The party can include the customizable main Pawn and two additional hired Pawns. Use those slots to cover what the Arisen cannot do reliably.
Check for a stable front line, a way to reach elevated targets, recovery or support, and damage that does not depend on one enemy position. A varied group is explicitly encouraged by the official overview.

Treat the world as part of combat
Capcom describes a reactive world in which terrain, physics and enemy behavior shape encounters. Look for height, narrow approaches, hazards and escape space before drawing a large foe into combat.
Not every visible monster has to be fought immediately. The official page explicitly frames engagement or another option as a player decision.
Diagnose the party, not only the Arisen
If a flying target stays unreachable, add dependable range. If casting never completes, create a front line and safe space. If the group collapses after one mistake, add recovery or durability before chasing more damage.
Replace one hired Pawn at a time and observe the change. The main Pawn is the stable role you can develop; hired Pawns are the flexible answer to the next route.
