Mojang has dated a platform-wallet split that changes where newly purchased Nintendo Minecoins can be spent while preserving older balances separately.

What happened

Minecraft published the wallet-change notice on September 1.

The change takes effect October 27, 2026 and separates Nintendo-purchased currency from currency bought elsewhere.

The practical change: Check the platform wording on physical Minecoin packaging before buying after the change, especially if the balance must work across devices.

What is confirmed

  • Nintendo-purchased Minecoins become usable only on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
  • Minecoins bought outside Nintendo will no longer be spendable on Nintendo devices.
  • Balances held before October 27 become a Legacy Wallet, do not expire and are used first.
  • Some physical cards may exclude Nintendo, so packaging must be checked.

What this means for players

Cross-device players need to choose where they buy currency.

Existing balances are preserved but handled separately from new platform-specific purchases.

What is still unconfirmed

The notice does not say every retailer will replace old card packaging on the same day.

What to do next

  1. 01
Review the wallet balance before October 27.
  2. 02
Read the platform list on any physical card.
  3. 03
Buy on the platform where the currency will actually be spent.
