Do this first
- 01Name the party job before choosing a class.
- 02Check the next two class levels before multiclassing.
- 03Do not delay a key power spike without a specific payoff.
- 04Find Withers through early exploration or camp progression.
- 05Rebuild from level one, then recheck proficiencies, abilities, spells and prepared actions.
Choose by turn job
Larian lists 12 base classes and, after the final patch, 46 subclasses. The useful decision is what the character must do on a normal turn: hold space, control enemies, support allies, attack at range or deliver a short burst.
A class tier list cannot replace party context. A powerful option that duplicates an existing role may solve fewer encounters than a simpler missing tool.
Multiclass with a destination
Multiclassing trades later features in the current class for earlier features in another. Write down the exact level and feature you are buying before splitting levels.
If the payoff arrives after the campaign section you are playing, the build is still a plan rather than a current advantage.

What respec changes
Larian confirms that Withers can restart a character's build from level one and change class, subclass, proficiencies, abilities, spells and cantrips. It is a rebuild tool, not a story rewind.
After rebuilding, open every action bar and prepared-spell list. A valid level allocation can still leave the intended combat tools unprepared.
What remains fixed
The official respec explanation does not promise that every origin, race, background, appearance or narrative consequence can be replaced. Keep character-creation and story choices separate from class-level decisions.
