Do this first
- 01Update every platform to the same live game version.
- 02Enable cross-play under Gameplay and connect a Larian account.
- 03Create the lobby and share its name or code privately.
- 04Match the enabled mod list and each mod version on every device.
- 05Test with mods disabled if the lobby or save still fails.
Cross-play platforms and switch
Patch 8 added cross-play across PC, Mac, Xbox and PlayStation. Existing saves need the Cross-Play option enabled in the Gameplay menu before they appear in the cross-play flow.
Cross-play lobbies use Larian Network. Platform multiplayer subscriptions and local account rules still apply where the platform requires them.
Match the mod list exactly
Larian states that every participant must run the same mods and mod versions. A lobby can fail even when everyone recognizes the mod names if one version or enabled state differs.
Compare the host list line by line. If the game offers to resolve a mismatch, review what it will install, update or disable before accepting.

Protect the save
Mods can affect save compatibility, and achievements are disabled when using mods. Keep an unmodded backup before changing a long-running campaign.
Console and Mac libraries use curated supported mods; an unsupported PC-only mod does not become cross-platform merely because the base game supports cross-play.
Troubleshooting order
Confirm game version, account connection and cross-play switch first. Then disable every mod and test a fresh lobby. Re-enable only the agreed set after the base connection works.
If an existing save fails while a new unmodded lobby works, treat the save or mod stack as the boundary rather than reinstalling every platform immediately.
