Direct answer
Learn five things before chasing a build: dodge and roll, parry, Sign casting, Witcher Senses, and the Bestiary. Then read stamina, toxicity, enemy level color and item durability before every risky fight.
Released-game guidance follows CD PROJEKT RED's official manual and support pages. Announced Remastered and Songs of the Past features stay labeled until their playable builds can be checked.
Quick route
- 01Update the game, choose readable interface settings and confirm the installed version.
- 02Practice dodge, roll, parry, Witcher Senses and one Sign before leaving safe ground.
- 03Use the map and tracked objective for direction, then open the Bestiary before a monster contract.
- 04Check enemy threat color, stamina, toxicity and equipment durability before committing.
- 05Change one failed decision at a time instead of copying an unverified all-purpose build.
Build a readable first session
The official manual says the interface is customizable from Options and that not every element is shown at once. Keep the minimap, tracked objective and control help visible until you can identify the information without stopping.
Remastered launched on September 29, 2026. This guide keeps the stable control and preparation loop from the official manual, while changed skills, movement, monster behavior and platform features use the current Remastered notes as their boundary.
Read the HUD before taking damage
Stamina falls when Geralt sprints or casts Signs. Adrenaline rises and falls during combat. Toxicity rises when potions are consumed, and the skull state marks a dangerous level. These are decision signals, not decoration.
The enemy bar shows name, level and remaining health. The manual describes gray for an enemy at least five levels below Geralt, green for an enemy within five levels, red for a stronger enemy and a skull for a major threat. Backing out of a red or skull-marked fight is route discipline, not failure.
- Low stamina: stop chaining Signs and movement without recovery.
- Dangerous toxicity: do not add another potion blindly.
- Red durability segment: repair or replace the affected item.
- Red level or skull: gather information before forcing the encounter.

Use the map, Bestiary and Witcher Senses as one loop
The official controls assign dedicated access to the Map, Glossary and Bestiary, while Witcher Senses share the defensive input on the PC manual. Use the map to choose direction, Witcher Senses to inspect the immediate space and the Bestiary to prepare for a known creature.
The minimap can display tracked objectives, fast-travel points, herbs and enemies. If progression feels stalled, first verify the tracked objective and nearby point of interest before assuming the quest is broken.
Diagnose the first repeated failure
Name the failure precisely: unread attack, empty stamina, dangerous toxicity, wrong sword target, broken equipment or an enemy above the intended threat range. One label gives you one change to test.
Do not replace the entire skill plan after one bad fight. Preserve the decisions that worked, change the single failing step and retry the same situation.
