Direct answer
Yes, The Witcher 3 supports cross-save through Cross Progression. Update both copies, connect the source and destination to the same CD PROJEKT RED account, enable Cross Progression, create a new save and wait for its cloud icon. That uploaded save should then appear under Load Game on the other supported platform.
Released-game guidance follows CD PROJEKT RED's official manual and support pages. Announced Remastered and Songs of the Past features stay labeled until their playable builds can be checked.
Quick route
- 01Update The Witcher 3 on the source and destination platforms.
- 02Open Load Game and use the displayed Cross Progression button or key.
- 03Connect the source game to your CD PROJEKT RED account.
- 04Create a new save and confirm the cloud icon beside its name.
- 05Open My Rewards on the destination and connect the same account.
- 06Load the uploaded save from the destination platform's Load Game menu.
What Witcher 3 cross-save routes work?
Cross Progression moves a cloud save; it does not transfer game ownership. Install an eligible copy on the destination platform before looking for the uploaded save.
| Transfer route | Status | Requirement |
|---|---|---|
| PC to another supported platform | Supported | Both copies must be updated, connected to the same CD PROJEKT RED account and show a cloud-backed source save. |
| Console to PC or another supported console | Supported | Use Cross Progression on both platforms; owning the game on one platform does not provide a copy on another. |
| PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 | Supported | Cross Progression is the current official path; backward-compatible local transfer options also exist for the same PSN account. |
| Nintendo Switch to another supported platform | Supported after the current update | Install the platform update that includes Cross Progression, connect the same account and create a fresh cloud save. |
| Old local save with no cloud icon | Not uploaded yet | Enable Cross Progression and create a new save; do not assume every historical local save was uploaded automatically. |
Check the upload route before unlinking accounts
Tick only what you can verify on the two game copies. The first unchecked condition is the safest next action; do not unlink an account or delete a local save as a diagnostic step.
Interactive diagnosis
Why is the cloud save not showing?
This checklist follows CD PROJEKT RED's published sequence. It diagnoses setup conditions; it cannot confirm a server-side upload.
Fix a missing cross-progression save
Do not unlink accounts first. Preserve the source save, verify the upload signal and change one condition at a time.
| What you see | Check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| The destination shows no cloud save | Confirm both games use the same CD PROJEKT RED account and the source save has a cloud icon. | Create a fresh manual save on the source, wait for the icon, then reopen Load Game on the destination. |
| Cross Progression is missing from the menu | Compare the installed version shown below the game title with the latest update available on that platform. | Update the game before reconnecting the account or troubleshooting the save itself. |
| The save appears but will not load | Check whether the destination copy has the content and update required by that save. | Install the current game update and owned content, then retry; use official support if the same save still fails. |
| Only an older save appears | Cross Progression provides the latest cloud save for each save type, not every local save in the list. | Open the intended source file, create a new manual save and verify its cloud icon before switching platforms. |
Current 2026 status
Cross Progression is still supported after the September 29 Remastered launch. The free upgrade changes the game build; it does not remove the need to connect both copies to the same CD PROJEKT RED account and upload a fresh source save with a visible cloud icon.
Free upgrade and cross progression are separate. The upgrade is claimed inside an owned platform ecosystem; Cross Progression moves a supported cloud save between separately installed copies. Keep the source installation and local save until the destination loads and reloads the intended file.
The official eight-step path, reduced to one checkable flow
CD PROJEKT RED says Cross Progression uploads the latest save for each save type. It is enabled by default after account connection and can be turned on or off under Options, Gameplay, Cross Progression.
The decisive step is creating a new save after enabling the feature. The cloud icon beside that save is the visible evidence that it uploaded.

If the destination cannot see the save
First compare the version shown under the game title on both platforms. Then confirm that the source save has a cloud icon and that the destination is connected to the same CD PROJEKT RED account.
Do not assume every old local save was uploaded. Create a fresh save on the source after Cross Progression is enabled, wait for the cloud icon and reopen Load Game on the destination.
- Same CD PROJEKT RED account on both platforms.
- Latest patch installed on both copies.
- Fresh source save created after Cross Progression was enabled.
- Cloud icon visible beside the source save.
- Destination opened through My Rewards and Load Game.
Cross Progression is not the same as a local console transfer
For PlayStation 4 to PlayStation 5 backward-compatible play, CD PROJEKT RED also documents PlayStation Plus upload, LAN or Wi-Fi transfer, and compatible storage-device transfer under the same PSN account.
Use that local-console route when the task is moving a PS4 save to backward-compatible PS5 play. Use Cross Progression when the task is continuing through the CD PROJEKT RED cloud across supported platforms.
Account and evidence boundaries
My Rewards is available for the base game and Complete Edition, but Cross Progression still depends on the same connected account and a successful cloud upload. This guide does not promise trophy, achievement or mod compatibility beyond what the official support pages state.
Never unlink or replace an account merely because a save is not visible. Recheck version, account identity and cloud icon first, then use official support if the upload still fails.
The Witcher 3 cross-save FAQ
Does The Witcher 3 have cross-save?
Yes. CD PROJEKT RED calls it Cross Progression. It uploads the latest save for each save type so play can continue on another supported PC or console copy.
Can The Witcher 3 saves move between PC and console?
Yes, the official My Rewards page describes Cross Progression between PC and consoles. Both copies still need the current update, the same connected CD PROJEKT RED account and a source save with a cloud icon.
Why is my Witcher 3 cross-progression save not showing?
The usual checks are mismatched game versions, different connected accounts or a source save that was never uploaded. Create a new save after enabling Cross Progression and wait for the cloud icon before opening Load Game on the destination.
Does cross-save transfer trophies, achievements or mods?
The reviewed Cross Progression instructions confirm save transfer, not universal trophy, achievement or mod transfer. Treat those as separate platform or mod-compatibility questions.
