How to Get Mechanical Springs in Valheim and Where They Fit

Answer the Mechanical Spring search without mislabelling it as a Deep North material: unlock its Mistlands-era production chain, craft it, move it and use it deliberately.

Direct answer

Mechanical Springs are not a new Deep North drop. The current community-maintained Valheim Wiki records them as a Mistlands-stage craft made at an Artisan Table from 1 Refined Eitr and 3 Iron. They are used for the Trap, Ballista and Vice. Under normal portal rules they cannot pass through a wooden Portal, so craft them near the destination or use a compatible Stone Portal route.

Evidence boundary: Iron Gate's official 1.0 notes do not publish this recipe. The exact recipe and use list therefore come from the community-maintained Valheim Wiki and are labelled accordingly; confirm them in the live crafting menu after patches.

Do this first

  1. 01
Do not search the Deep North for a Mechanical Spring drop; treat it as an older progression craft.
  2. 02
Reach the production stage that gives you an Artisan Table, Refined Eitr and processed Iron.
  3. 03
At the Artisan Table, check the live recipe before spending materials after any patch.
  4. 04
Craft near the build site when using normal wooden-Portal restrictions.
  5. 05
Reserve Springs for the exact defense or station upgrade you intend to place.

Why this query is easy to misread after 1.0

The search is rising next to Deep North interest, but the named item predates the final biome. Iron Gate's 1.0 notes say the Deep North adds more than 30 crafting materials; they do not identify Mechanical Springs as one of those additions.

The practical correction is simple: if you need the Spring, return to the established Mistlands-era crafting chain rather than farming an unverified Deep North enemy or chest.

  • Stage: Mistlands-era production
  • Station: Artisan Table
  • Community-recorded cost: 1 Refined Eitr + 3 Iron
  • Normal wooden-Portal rule: restricted

Build the prerequisite chain

The community wiki lists the Mechanical Spring at Artisan Table level 1. Its ingredients mean the real gate is not the table alone: you also need access to Refined Eitr production and a supply of processed Iron.

If the recipe does not appear, verify the current game version, the station you are using and whether the relevant ingredients have been discovered. Avoid importing a modded recipe cost into an unmodded world.

Transport before you mass-craft

The community-maintained item page marks Mechanical Springs as unavailable through ordinary wooden Portals under normal rules. That can turn a bulk crafting session into a shipping problem.

The lower-risk plan is to move Iron and the rest of the production chain deliberately, craft near the target base, or use the Stone Portal behavior available to your current world. World modifiers and later patches can change the practical route, so the live inventory and portal warning remain the final check.

What the Spring is for

The current community page lists the Trap, Ballista and Vice as uses. Decide which placed object you are actually funding before consuming Refined Eitr and Iron.

MonsterSnow has not independently measured placement efficiency, target selection, damage or an optimal number of defenses in 1.0. This page answers acquisition and routing, not a fabricated base-defense tier list.
