Direct answer
Open the unit's growth-rate and skill panels, name the job the squad is missing, then train the required skills and take the matching certification exam. Nintendo says most characters can enter any class when they meet its skill requirements, while each character learns different things inside a class. Build for a role and test it; a visible growth rate is guidance, not a guarantee.
This guide describes published rules, not a fabricated complete route or optimized build. Check the released game for changing values and exact availability.
What to do
- 01Inspect the unit's visible growth rates, current skills and learned abilities.
- 02Name one missing squad job: front line, range, mobility, magic, support or terrain control.
- 03Check the target class's skill requirements before spending between-match training time.
- 04Pass the certification exam only after the unit can perform the planned job with current equipment.
- 05Test the new class on a recoverable map and keep or revise the plan from actual results.
Read growth rates as probabilities
Nintendo's developers say Fortune's Weave makes each character's growth rates visible, so players can see which basic statistics such as Strength or Speed are more likely to rise. Those rates help explain a unit's tendency; they do not promise the next level-up or forbid an unusual build.
Compare the visible tendency with the role you need. A fast unit might support a mobile plan, but movement type, weapon access, learned abilities and the rest of the squad still decide whether the class solves the current map.
Plan backward from a battlefield job
The developer interview says characters can generally choose any class after meeting its skill requirements and passing certification. Start with the task—hold a lane, reach a distant target, provide magic or support—then identify the class and required skills.
Do not train every skill equally. Use Dagsion's preparation turns on the requirement that unlocks the next useful certification, while keeping at least one working combat role for the current Heroic Games match.
- Front line: durability and reliable enemy contact.
- Range: safe pressure against distant or elevated targets.
- Mobility: reach objectives and rescue exposed allies.
- Support: healing, buffs or position control.

Expect character-specific discoveries
Nintendo says the same character can become a mage or mounted unit depending on the player's plan, and that characters may learn different abilities while growing inside a class. That makes experimentation legitimate, but it does not make every experiment equally cheap.
Change one layer at a time. Keep the weapon and squad around the candidate stable for the first test so you can tell whether the new class improved reach, survival or utility.
Diagnose a failed certification plan
If the exam option is missing, check the live skill requirement, preparation progress and current story access rather than assuming the class is unavailable. If the unit passes but performs poorly, separate low equipment, weak positioning and missing squad support from the class itself.
Use the chapter replay or turn-recovery tools for safe tests when available. Nintendo has not published a universal class tier list, exact exam odds or a best class for every character in the checked sources, so the released interface remains the final authority.
