Do this first
- 01Check total power level before comparing one isolated stat.
- 02Read the full armor-set bonus and trigger condition.
- 03Upgrade equipment that supports the moves you already land.
- 04Buy skills, then use them enough to expose their skill-labor mod.
- 05Complete nearby favors and search puzzle chests for materials.
Power level comes first
Santa Monica Studio's official tips warn that equipment power level drives how Kratos performs against higher-level enemies. A large single stat cannot fully replace a level gap.
Compare the full equipped result. If an enemy's level presentation signals a severe mismatch, return after upgrading instead of treating the encounter as a pure timing test.
Build around a trigger you cause
Armor sets provide perks and can become stronger when multiple pieces support the same effect. Choose a condition you create consistently—such as a parry, Runic use or status application—rather than a bonus that rarely activates.
Upgrading a familiar set is valid. The official combat guide says armor and attachments are designed to support varied playstyles, so a newly found item is an option, not an automatic replacement.

Turn skill use into customization
Experience buys skills for the available characters and weapons. Repeatedly using certain skills can complete Skill Labors and expose an additional modifier choice.
Practice one new move in ordinary encounters before stacking several unfamiliar inputs. This gives the skill a fair test and makes its labor progress useful rather than incidental.
Explore for missing materials
The official guide points to hidden loot, puzzle chests and favors as sources of equipment, attachments, Runic attacks, Hacksilver and upgrade materials.
If a shop upgrade is blocked, inspect the named material and unfinished nearby content. Do not assume random grinding is required when the missing source may be a specific favor or chest.
