Do this first
- 01Identify the ring color before committing to an attack.
- 02Use a block or parry only when the signal allows it.
- 03Dodge red-ring attacks and interrupt double-blue rings.
- 04Switch weapon element when protection or status resists the current tool.
- 05Spend Rage to recover control, not after the fight is already lost.
Translate rings into actions
The official combat guide separates ordinary pressure from three warning rings. Yellow attacks can be parried but break a held guard; red attacks cannot be blocked or parried; double-blue attacks call for Shield Strike.
Choose the response before squeezing in another hit. Most early failures come from finishing an attack animation after the warning has already identified the safer action.
Use light and heavy attacks deliberately
Light attacks start faster and are less likely to leave Kratos exposed. Heavy attacks have more wind-up and can stagger, but the longer commitment is dangerous when another enemy is already signaling.
Ranged axe throws, chained-blade pulls and Runic attacks solve different distances. Rotate tools to control space rather than treating the largest damage number as the only objective.

Match element and environment
The Leviathan Axe applies frost while the Blades of Chaos apply fire. The official guide also points to bare-handed stun, companion arrows and arena hazards as parts of the combat kit.
If a protected enemy resists the current weapon, switch. If a group closes in, move toward a ledge, explosive jar or open lane before using a long animation.
Diagnose repeated deaths
If the shield keeps breaking, separate yellow rings from ordinary blockable hits. If an unblockable attack keeps landing, dodge later or move laterally rather than rolling backward into another enemy.
When the screen becomes unreadable, change lock-on, camera, contrast or difficulty settings. A clear response window is more valuable than repeating a fight with the same visibility problem.
