Direct answer
Patch 1.0.10 is the latest official update reviewed on August 28, 2026. It adds limited ground-item persistence between sessions, simplifies cleaning weapons and tools in water, slightly nerfs Anglerfish and fixes several save, roulette, respawn and connection issues.
Official facts come from Dazed Games, the Steam store and developer patch notes. Exact catch rates, spawn tables, prices and damage values are omitted when the current official material does not publish them.

Patch 1.0.10: the changes that affect decisions
Items left on the ground now save between sessions, up to 64, with weapons, tools, quest items and creatures prioritized. Weapons and tools also clear cooking-related state when dipped in water.
Anglerfish received a slight nerf. The patch also fixes problems involving tuna and albatross respawns, save-time handling, explosions, equipped-item spawning, roulette, the radar X marker and items falling through the world after loading.
Patch 1.0.9: selectable difficulty
Easy, Default and Hard were added. Easy reduces creature health by 25 percent and damage by 50 percent. Hard raises creature health and damage by 25 percent.
The same patch fixed a possible save-corruption issue and added Steam relay information to connection debugging.
Patch 1.0.5: private lobbies and progression fixes
Private lobbies became invite-only, session type could be changed after restarting, and the minimum locked frame-rate option moved from 50 to 30. The patch also closed the ability to travel to islands before unlocking them.
Additional fixes covered 4K skins, the all-drip-creatures achievement and an end-game griefing case.
Patch 1.0.4: bigger lobbies and boss tuning
Patch 1.0.4 added support for lobbies of up to eight players, nerfed the Pufferfish and Whale, and made the route to the final island easier.
The Steam store's short description still says one to four players. The patch note is newer and explicitly describes eight-player lobby support; the mismatch is recorded here instead of silently choosing one description.
Official release trailer
The trailer confirms the co-op tone, physics-driven catches, weapons, boss encounters and revives. Treat footage as visual context; the current patch notes override early-build balance or interface details.
