Direct answer
Parry Monolith's readable close-range strikes, punish once, then reset. Move behind it during fixed laser bands; when the lasers rotate, back away so the wider arc gives you more reaction time and dodge toward each approaching beam.
This guide separates official facts, independently cross-checked launch information and field-testing advice. Patch-sensitive costs, drop rates and damage values are omitted unless the current build and accessible evidence agree.
Quick route
- 01Reach the Obsidian Vault branch of Unfound Path and spend exposed resources before the arena.
- 02Choose one readable melee sequence as the parry target; use one punish after each success.
- 03Move behind Monolith when the fixed laser bands appear.
- 04For rotating lasers, create distance, keep the nearest beam visible and dodge toward its sweep.
- 05After the fight, sever the red gland in the arena to complete the branch objective.
Fix the problem fast
| What you see | Check | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| Old footage has different timing | Confirm the guide or video predates Balance Patch 1. | Use the current visual cue and avoid copied frame counts. |
| Fixed lasers box you in | Check whether you are remaining in front of Monolith. | Move behind it and leave before the next attack begins. |
| Rotating beams hit off camera | Check distance and whether the nearest beam stays visible. | Back away, reacquire the sweep and dodge toward the approaching beam. |
| The route still looks blocked after victory | Inspect the arena for the red gland. | Sever it before leaving the Obsidian Vault branch. |

Current patch baseline
Official Balance Patch 1 reduced Monolith's base damage by 19% and maximum health by 10%, and retimed some attacks. A pre-patch video can still explain the arena, but its exact dodge rhythm may no longer match the installed fight.
The route and response plan below avoids frame-count claims the developer has not published.
Close-range parry loop
Stay close enough to see the simple melee sequence. Pick one committed strike to parry, land one controlled punish and return to defense before the next wind-up.
Use the critical opening as soon as it is available. Extra swings after a successful parry are the most common way to turn a won exchange into damage taken.
Fixed laser bands
When Monolith closes and projects fixed laser bands, move to its back. The boss remains stationary long enough for a short punish from the safe side, but leave before it opens into the next attack.
Do not cross multiple bands merely to extend a combo. The safe goal is to preserve position for the next readable melee sequence.
Rotating laser phase
Create distance when the beams begin rotating. The wider arc gives more visual time between passes, and keeping both Monolith and the nearest beam in view prevents an off-camera hit.
Dodge toward an approaching beam instead of running beside it. If its speed changes, stop attacking and reacquire the rhythm before crossing again.
After Monolith
Defeating the health bar is not the last route action. Sever the red gland hanging in the arena so the Obsidian Vault branch stops feeding the central tendril barrier.
Monolith is one guardian inside Unfound Path, not the final boss. Confirm that the branch state changed before leaving.
