Stardew Valley Skull Cavern Floor 100: Prep, Bombs & Staircases

Unlock the desert cavern, prepare a high-luck descent and reach floor 100 with a practical bomb, healing, staircase and warp plan.

Direct answer: Get the Skull Key from Mines floor 120, repair the bus, then enter Skull Cavern in the northwest Desert. Go on a high-luck day, warp early, use bombs to expose ladders and shafts, heal before danger and carry staircases for slow or infested floors. There is no elevator, so every visit starts at floor 1; the floor-100 challenge rewards fast downward movement, not clearing each floor.

Do this first

  1. 01
Reach Mines floor 120 for the Skull Key and restore the bus to the Desert.
  2. 02
Choose a high-luck day and pack bombs, healing food, a luck or speed drink and staircases.
  3. 03
Use a Desert Warp Totem or Desert Obelisk for an earlier start than the bus.
  4. 04
Bomb dense rock groups, take shafts immediately and skip slow or infested floors.
  5. 05
Heal before health becomes critical and keep the return route separate from the descent plan.

A floor-100 loadout by job

There is no single mandatory inventory. Give every slot a job and scale the quantities to your weapon, Mining level, food supply and comfort with combat.

01

Bombs

Dense rock clusters

Bomb several rocks at once to reveal ladders or shafts faster than single-tile mining.

Why it mattersStand clear of the blast and do not spend time collecting every exposed item.

02

Staircases

Infested, spiral and slow floors

Place one for an immediate descent when the current floor wastes too much clock time.

Why it mattersTrade Jade for Staircases at the Desert Trader on Sundays to avoid spending 99 Stone each.

03

Healing food

Emergency health without unwanted buffs

Use a large, predictable heal before enemies can finish the run.

Why it mattersKeep it on a stable hotbar slot; waiting for critical health is the common failure.

04

Buff food and drink

Luck and movement speed

One food buff and one drink buff can run together, letting luck and speed support the same descent.

Why it mattersEating another buff food replaces the active food buff.

05

Desert warp

Maximum cave time

A Warp Totem: Desert or Desert Obelisk bypasses the bus schedule and starts the run early.

Why it mattersCarry a planned way home or accept the late return penalty.

06

Weapon and pickaxe

Survival and cleanup

Use the best reliable weapon available; keep the pickaxe for isolated rocks and blocked routes.

Why it mattersThe floor-100 route is not the place to test an underpowered weapon.

Unlock the cavern before preparing the run

The Skull Key is found at the bottom of the regular Mines on floor 120. The key opens Skull Cavern once the Desert is reachable through the repaired bus route.

Skull Cavern is in the northwest Desert. It has no elevator and each visit begins at floor 1, so stockpiling supplies without unlocking the key and travel route does not create progress toward floor 100.

Turn daily luck into faster descents

Higher daily luck improves the chance of finding ladders and shafts. Read the Fortune Teller, then combine a favorable day with food or drink buffs if the inventory supports them.

Luck does not replace execution. Enter early, bomb dense tiles, descend as soon as a route appears and ignore ordinary ore clusters that pull the run sideways.

  • Shaft available: take it unless survival says otherwise.
  • Infested floor: staircase immediately when speed is the goal.
  • Sparse rocks: place a staircase instead of mining the entire room.

Separate the floor-25 and floor-100 objectives

Qi's Challenge asks for floor 25 and awards 10,000g by mail. Secret Note #10 starts the separate Cryptic Note challenge to reach floor 100.

Floor 100 normally contains a treasure chest, but the first visit that completes the secret-note challenge uses the event instead. Keep the two objectives separate so the earlier 10,000g reward is not mistaken for the floor-100 result.

Survive serpents and finish mummies

Serpents close distance quickly, so keep open movement space and heal before the next hit becomes lethal. Avoid fighting enemies that do not block the descent.

A downed Mummy revives unless its body is finished by an explosion; a weapon with the Crusader enchantment is the exception. Use a bomb only when the route or safety justifies the time.

Depth improves Iridium opportunity

Iridium nodes become more common deeper in Skull Cavern. For an ore run, the efficient plan is still to descend rapidly before switching attention toward rich clusters.

The cavern has no practical floor limit, so floor 100 is a milestone rather than the end. Stop when healing, time or escape options no longer support the next descent.
