The short beginner answer
Start with objective coverage, not damage. Bring one Operator who can create access, one who can stabilize a bad turn and one who can finish exposed targets. Keep the remaining slot flexible until the mission brief reveals the real problem.
This launch archive separates confirmed official facts from editorial tactical advice. Unverified ability values, mission rewards, exact enemy statistics and definitive tier lists are not invented.
Read the mission before the roster
Official material describes tactical operations, investigations and changing battlefields. Before choosing a squad, write down the objective, likely engagement range and the cost of taking too long. A build that wins an elimination mission may be wrong for extraction, investigation or survival.
Give each Operator one primary job
- 01Access
Reveal, reposition or create a route to the objective.
- 02Control
Limit the most dangerous enemy action or protect a threatened lane.
- 03Finish
Convert a created opening into a removed threat.
- 04Recovery
Repair positioning, protection or tempo when the first plan breaks.
These are editorial planning roles, not unpublished in-game classes. The Operators guide separates confirmed archetypes from this practical test.
Use a three-question turn check
Before committing an ability, ask: does this advance the objective, does it leave the squad exposed, and what happens if the action fails? Official descriptions emphasize choices with lasting consequences, so a strong turn should improve both immediate position and the next decision.
If one move already creates a clean objective line, hold the second tool for the enemy response. Extra spectacle is not the same as extra control.
Between missions, improve the company
The Den is the base of operations. Official material confirms squad skill development, bonds, new combat synergies, loadouts and appearance customization. Prioritize upgrades that reinforce a proven mission job; avoid spreading resources across abilities that have not solved a real problem yet.
Beginner FAQ
Is the game multiplayer?
No. EA describes it as a single-player turn-based tactics game.
Does every playthrough follow the same path?
Official material says battlefield and base decisions affect outcomes and make each playthrough different. Exact branching details should wait for the launch build.
Should I copy a tier list before launch?
No. Confirmed ability values and full mission demands are not yet available. Use roles and objective coverage first.
