Stardew Valley Lost and Found Box: What You Can Recover

Find the Lost & Found Box in Mayor Lewis's house, recover failed-order and forgotten Fair items, and know when Marlon handles a mine loss instead.

Direct answer: Go to Mayor Lewis's house in Pelican Town between 8:30 a.m. and 10 p.m. The Lost & Found Box is on the left side of the interior, beside the other service objects. It can return items donated to failed special orders, lost quest items and tools, offline farmhands' items, certain children's hats, and Grange Display items left at the Fair. Items lost after a mine collapse use Marlon's separate Item Recovery Service, not this box.

Do this first

  1. 01
Identify how the item went missing: failed special order, Fair display, story quest, offline farmhand, or mine collapse.
  2. 02
For the first four cases, visit Mayor Lewis's house between 8:30 a.m. and 10 p.m.
  3. 03
Interact with the Lost & Found Box on the left side of the house and inspect the available items.
  4. 04
If you lost an inventory item after collapsing in a mine or cavern, talk to Marlon at the Adventurer's Guild instead.
  5. 05
If the box is empty, confirm the event actually ended or failed and check the correct recovery service before assuming the item is gone.

Which recovery route matches your loss?

The word ‘lost’ covers several different systems. Start with the event that removed the item, not with the item name alone.

01

Failed special order

Donated goods

After a partly fulfilled special order expires, donated items can be collected from Lewis's Lost & Found Box.

What to checkConfirm the order failed; goods that were shipped are not the same as goods deposited in an order container.

02

Forgotten Fair display

Grange items

Items left in the Stardew Valley Fair Grange Display are not automatically returned to your inventory.

What to checkCollect them at the display before leaving when possible; otherwise check Lewis's box afterward.

03

Story quest item or tool

Missing unique item

The Lost & Found Box is a recovery point for lost quest items and tools.

What to checkFirst check your inventory, chests and the active quest; the box is not a duplicate-item generator.

04

Offline farmhand

Multiplayer host

The host can access an offline farmhand's inventory through the box in Lewis's house.

What to checkThis is a multiplayer inventory service, not ownership transfer between separate saves.

05

Mine or cavern collapse

Combat loss

Use Marlon's Item Recovery Service at the Adventurer's Guild instead of Lewis's box.

What to checkMarlon normally returns one chosen item or stack for a fee; a later collapse replaces the pending list.

Find the box without entering Lewis's bedroom

Mayor's Manor is east of the Pelican Town graveyard and south of Pam and Penny's trailer, beside the bridge toward the Museum and Blacksmith. The maintained location page lists open hours as 8:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Once inside, use the service objects on the left side of the house. The Lost & Found Box is in the public interior; the two-heart friendship rule applies to Lewis's private bedroom, not to reaching this box.

  • Location: Mayor's Manor in Pelican Town.
  • Hours: 8:30 a.m.–10 p.m.
  • Use the box on the left side of the interior.

Recover a failed order or forgotten Fair display

For a special order that required donating goods to a container, the maintained quest record says the donated items can be picked up from the Lost & Found Box if the order fails. Check the order's status first; the guide does not promise that every shipped item is returned.

The Stardew Valley Fair Grange Display has its own easy-to-miss step: judging does not move the nine display items back into your inventory. Pick them up before leaving. If you forgot, the maintained Fair guide says they can later be retrieved from Lewis's box.

  • Failed order: inspect after the order has ended unsuccessfully.
  • Fair: the display does not auto-empty into your inventory.
  • Recover from the box rather than repeating the entire event.

Quest items, tools and absent farmhands

The Mayor's Manor record lists lost quest items and tools among the box's recoverable categories. Before visiting, check the active quest and your own inventory or storage so you do not mistake an uncollected item for a lost one. The separate lost-item quest guide covers where Robin's axe, Lewis's shorts and Linus's basket are first found.

In multiplayer, the host can use the same box to access an offline farmhand's inventory. The maintained Cabin page confirms this route; it does not imply that another player has deleted their character or transferred items between unrelated save files.

  • Look for an item you already obtained and then lost.
  • For an item never picked up, revisit the original quest location.
  • For multiplayer, have the host check the offline-farmhand option.

A mine loss goes to Marlon, not Lewis

When low health causes a collapse in the Mines, Quarry Mine, Skull Cavern or Volcano Dungeon, the separate recovery path is Marlon at the Adventurer's Guild. Its maintained guide says you may select one lost item or stack for a fee; it arrives by mail overnight.

Do not treat the Mayor's Lost & Found as insurance for all inventory losses. Marlon's pending list is replaced by a later collapse, so check it before another risky trip. This page does not promise every lost item can be restored.

  • Combat collapse: Adventurer's Guild Item Recovery Service.
  • One chosen item or stack, not the whole lost inventory.
  • Later collapse can replace the previous selection list.

When the box appears empty

Trace the disappearance, then check the relevant system. A failed special order must first reach its failed state, and Fair items must have been left in the display. A quest item that was never picked up remains at its original quest location; an item lost in combat belongs to Marlon's service.

Do not infer a bug or invent a recovery trick from an empty menu. Record the game version and platform if the expected category still does not appear, then compare the active save with the source category before reporting a reproducible issue.

  • Check your inventory and chests.
  • Check the event or quest status.
  • Check Marlon if the loss followed a combat collapse.
