Stardew Valley Festivals and Contests: How to Enter and Win

A full-year entry calendar for festivals, the Fair display, Egg Hunt, Ice Fishing, Trout Derby, SquidFest, Flower Dance, Luau and non-competitive events.

Direct answer: Open the calendar before the festival day, finish animal and crop chores, carry only the required items, then enter the named location during its entry window. For the Stardew Valley Fair on Fall 16, bring nine display items, place them in your Grange Display and talk to Mayor Lewis to start judging; 90 points earns first place.

Do this first

  1. 01
Check the calendar date, entry location and entry window before leaving the farm.
  2. 02
Water crops and feed animals first unless the event explicitly pauses ordinary time and chores.
  3. 03
Bring nine varied high-quality items for the Fair, one suitable ingredient for the Luau and one gift for the Winter Star recipient.
  4. 04
Talk to Mayor Lewis or the named event host when the contest requires a manual start.
  5. 05
Collect displayed items and prizes before leaving; use Lewis's lost-and-found box for forgotten Fair items.

The complete annual festival calendar

The 1.6 calendar mixes closed-map festivals with mini-festivals where shops stay open and time continues. The entry column tells you whether participation starts automatically, through Lewis or simply by fishing.

01

Egg Festival

Spring 13 · Pelican Town · enter 9am–2pm

Shop and socialize first, then talk to Lewis to start the 50-second Egg Hunt. The day ends after the hunt.

Bring or targetSolo target: 9 eggs. Multiplayer target: 6 with 2 players, 5 with 3, 4 with 4 or more; highest qualifying player wins.

02

Desert Festival

Spring 15–17 · Desert · 10am–2am

Enter the Desert and choose daily challenges, rotating shops, race betting and character-specific activities.

Bring or targetCalico Eggs are event currency; tasks and vendors rotate, so inspect the day's boards before spending.

03

Flower Dance

Spring 24 · Cindersap Forest · enter 9am–2pm

Talk to an eligible bachelor or bachelorette twice and invite them to dance, or invite another player in multiplayer.

Bring or targetAn NPC partner normally requires at least 4 friendship hearts.

04

Luau

Summer 11 · Beach · enter 9am–2pm

Add one ingredient to the communal soup, then talk to Lewis to begin the Governor's tasting.

Bring or targetItem type, base value and quality affect the reaction and town-wide friendship result; do not add a random expensive item without checking it.

05

Trout Derby

Summer 20–21 · Cindersap Forest · 6:10am–2am

No formal start: catch Rainbow Trout during the event and exchange Golden Tags one at a time at the booth.

Bring or targetEach Rainbow Trout catch has a 33% tag chance, multiplied by fish caught at once; tags carry across days and years.

06

Dance of the Moonlight Jellies

Summer 28 · Beach · enter 10pm–12am

Talk to Lewis when ready to light the torch and watch the migration.

Bring or targetNo contest or required item; this is a story and social event.

07

Stardew Valley Fair

Fall 16 · Pelican Town · enter 9am–3pm

Place up to 9 items in the Grange Display and talk to Lewis to begin judging; retrieve the items afterward.

Bring or targetFirst place needs 90 points. Fill all 9 slots and represent up to 6 of 8 recognized categories before chasing raw sale value.

08

Spirit's Eve

Fall 27 · Pelican Town · enter 10pm–11:50pm

Enter the hedge maze north of Pierre's booth and find the hidden passage near the question-mark sign.

Bring or targetOdd years award a Golden Pumpkin; even years award a Prize Ticket. There is no timed contest.

09

Festival of Ice

Winter 8 · Cindersap Forest · enter 9am–2pm

Talk to Lewis to begin the Ice Fishing Contest; the event supplies its own rod.

Bring or targetCatch at least 5 fish and allow the fifth catch animation to finish before time expires.

10

SquidFest

Winter 12–13 · Beach · 6:10am–2am

No formal start: catch Squid, then claim each day's tiered rewards at the booth. Ordinary time and shops continue.

Bring or targetAll rewards require 8 Squid on day 12 and 10 on day 13; the count resets between days.

11

Night Market

Winter 15–17 · Beach · 5pm–2am

Visit rotating merchants, the Mermaid Boat and the submarine. Time continues and ordinary shops remain on normal schedules.

Bring or targetNo contest; budget both money and late-night travel time.

12

Feast of the Winter Star

Winter 25 · Pelican Town · enter 9am–2pm

Read Lewis's letter on Winter 18, then talk to the assigned recipient at the feast to give the secret gift.

Bring or targetBring a confirmed gift for that recipient; the exchange ends the main event sequence.

Win the Fair by filling nine slots and six categories

The Grange Display begins with 14 base points. Nine submitted items add 9 more points, and each recognized category adds 5 points up to 30. The eight categories are Animal Products, Artisan Goods, Cooking, Fish, Foraging, Fruits, Minerals and Vegetables; six categories reach the diversity cap.

Quality and sell value supply the remaining item points, so there is no universal nine-item set for every farm or profit-margin setting. Bring nine strong items from at least six categories, place them in the display, ask Lewis to judge, then collect both the result and the physical items before leaving.

  • 90 points: first place and 1,000 Star Tokens.
  • 75 points: second place and 500 tokens.
  • 60 points: third place and 250 tokens.
  • Leaving slots empty reduces the item-count score.

Start the Egg Hunt only after shopping

Talking to Lewis begins the Egg Hunt and ends the social and shopping portion. Buy Strawberry Seeds or event furniture first, then start when you are ready.

The 50-second target changes with player count. In multiplayer, merely reaching the threshold does not guarantee the prize; the highest qualifying egg total wins, with tied leaders sharing the win.

Treat each fishing event as a different ruleset

Festival of Ice supplies its own rod and requires five completed catches. Trout Derby has no start bell: Rainbow Trout can yield Golden Tags, and tags can be saved. SquidFest instead tracks a daily catch total and resets it between Winter 12 and 13.

Trout Derby and SquidFest are mini-festivals where ordinary time, farm chores and most shops continue. Prepare bait, tackle, food and inventory space rather than assuming the event pauses the rest of the day.

Separate contributions, invitations and observation events

The Luau asks for one soup ingredient; the Flower Dance asks for a partner and normally four hearts; the Winter Star asks for a named recipient's gift. These are participation gates, not score tables.

Moonlight Jellies, Spirit's Eve and the Night Market do not require a competitive entry. Use their location and time windows, then follow the in-event prompt instead of carrying Fair items to every festival.
