Stardew Valley Seasons and Crops Planning Guide

Use the 28-day season, seed growth time, regrowth and watering capacity to avoid late planting and build a farm you can actually maintain all year.

Direct answer: Before buying seeds, subtract the current date from day 28 and compare the remaining watered days with the packet's growth time. Plant only what can mature in time, and remember that most crops wither at the season change unless they also grow in the next season.

Do this first

  1. 01
Read the date, weather forecast and seed description before buying.
  2. 02
Count available watered days through day 28.
  3. 03
Separate single-harvest seeds from crops that regrow after harvest.
  4. 04
Reserve seasonal items needed for bundles or personal goals.
  5. 05
Stop expanding when morning watering consumes the rest of your plan.

Use day 28 as the hard boundary

Spring, Summer, Fall and Winter each last 28 days. Most crops are seasonal, and crops that cannot grow in the next season wither after day 28.

The useful question is not which seed has the largest isolated sale price. It is whether the crop can mature with the watered days remaining and whether the farm has enough labor, money and space to support it.

Read growth and regrowth separately

A crop's first harvest time and its later regrowth interval are different decisions. A regrowing crop planted late may mature once but never earn the repeated harvests that justified buying it.

Check the live seed description and crop record for the installed version. Do not reuse a profit table that assumes a different start date, fertilizer, profession, processing setup or multiplayer margin.

Match field size to morning capacity

Every extra watered tile competes with fishing, mining, foraging, errands and relationships. Expand only when the morning routine leaves enough energy and time for the activity that supplies the next upgrade.

Sprinklers change that boundary, but they are infrastructure rather than permission to fill every tile immediately. Lay out paths, scarecrow coverage and harvesting access before scaling.

Prepare the next season deliberately

Keep enough money for the next seed purchase and stop planting crops that cannot mature before the transition. Multi-season crops are an exception; confirm the supported seasons in the live item information.

Fertilizer normally expires at a season change unless it remains under a crop that continues into the next season. Treat the final days as a harvest and layout reset, not a last-minute buying spree.
