Material Retrieval answer: assign, hunt, collect from Nata
Certain settlement residents can gather crafting materials while you play. Use the service for items that support your current forge plan, then collect the accumulated materials through Nata at Base Camp instead of traveling back to every settlement resident.
How Material Retrieval fits the crafting loop
- 01Open the smithy requirement
Start with the exact English item name and the quantity still missing.
- 02Confirm that it is a settlement resource
Monster parts, quest rewards and Mining Outcrops use different source paths and should not be forced into Material Retrieval.
- 03Select an available resident request
Use the current menu rather than an undated list; available residents and services follow game progress.
- 04Continue normal hunts
Treat retrieval as background support, not a reason to stop progression and wait at camp.
- 05Collect centrally through Nata
Return to the Base Camp intermediary, take the materials, and change the request after the bottleneck is solved.
What are the best Material Retrieval items?
There is no universal best request because the value changes with your weapon, armor, item consumption and next replacement. The correct choice is the material that removes a known bottleneck without duplicating a faster source you already use.
| Current need | Priority rule | Stop when |
|---|---|---|
| Next weapon or armor craft | Request the exact settlement material still missing | The required quantity is secured |
| Repeat-use supplies | Support the item you consistently consume faster than you gather | Your registered loadouts remain stocked |
| Future idea with no recipe | Do not prioritize it yet | A complete build or crafting target exists |
| Monster part or quest reward | Use the matching hunt or quest source instead | The target reward is obtained |
Nata is the collection hub, not every material source
PlayStation's official endgame guide identifies Nata as the Village Intermediary. He centralizes collection from settlement gatherers, supports trades and provides access to ore from the Smelting Foundry in Azuz. This convenience does not mean that every monster part, ore or quest item is generated by Material Retrieval.
Material Retrieval not showing up
| Check | What the result means |
|---|---|
| Story and settlement progress | If the relevant resident or service has not appeared, continue the active campaign and settlement conversations. |
| Nata's current menu | Use the service names visible in the current client instead of following an older screenshot. |
| Requested source type | A monster drop, quest reward or field node will not become a settlement request merely because it is a material. |
| Collection state | Collect what is available before assuming the system has stopped. |
Material Retrieval FAQ
How many Material Retrieval residents are there?
This page does not publish an unverified final count. Use the residents and requests visible in the current client; the source-checked value here is the central Nata collection method.
How long does Material Retrieval take?
The accessible official guide says residents gather while you play but does not state one universal timer. Treat the current menu state as the authority.
What should I request first?
Choose the exact settlement material blocking the next craft or the repeat-use supply your loadouts consume consistently. Change the request after the requirement is met.
